Dengue is a mosquito borne disease. It is a five to seven day fever with a very rapid course of deterioration or recovery. It transferred from person to person through the bite of Aedes aegyti and Aedes albopictus mosquito in the Philippines. The key to prevention is through the prevention of mosquito bites of infected mosquitoes and the prevention of mosquito bite is by keeping mosquito away from your homes. Do not let mosquito enter your house through screening of windows and doors and other possible entry points. There should be no standing water inside your house and in the immediate vicinity. Water attracts mosquito for humidity and egg laying. Mosquitoes are also attracted to dark corners of the house like underneath the tables, sinks, behind cabinets and other dark humid areas. Mosquito bites can also be prevented by wearing long sleeved shirts and long pants. If ever mosquitoes get into your house Insecticide spraying is one of the options especially when there are cases of dengue in your area. Remember….mosquitoes can kill humans through introduction of dengue virus into your system.
